Meet Our Team at the World One Health Congress 2026

The World One Health Congress brings together a global community of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers dedicated to advancing One Health science and policy. This year, the Global Strategy Lab is proud to support this event, and GSL’s AMR Policy Accelerator team will lead two interactive sessions focused on strengthening One Health governance and practical considerations for implementing national action plans on AMR.

Effective One Health governance is essential to the global and national response to AMR. It supports cross-sectoral collaboration, policy coordination, shared decision-making and accountability across human, animal, plant and environmental sectors. Its importance is also highlighted in the updated Global Action Plan on AMR.

This moderated panel will bring together researchers from Canada, Rwanda and Senegal to examine the latest evidence on the design and implementation of One Health governance across diverse settings.

Drawing on case studies from their countries, panelists will explore how governance dimensions, such as leadership, participation, coordination, equity, and accountability, can be tailored to improve AMR policy implementation. The discussion will consider how coordination across ministries responsible for health, agriculture, livestock, and environment impact the implementations of AMR policy and NAPs.

Attendees will discover practical, context-sensitive insights into how countries can strengthen multisectoral governance arrangements and accelerate progress on AMR.

How can countries make meaningful progress on AMR when funding is limited, institutional mandates compete, and One Health actors have different priorities?

The challenge of AMR policymaking is not limited to generating knowledge. Aligning actors, incentives, resources and institutional responsibilities is also vital. This 90-minute simulation will immerse participants in the practical challenges of designing and negotiating AMR interventions under real-world political, financial, and institutional constraints.

Moving beyond lecture-based discussions, the session will provide a structured and experiential opportunity to:

  • Navigate competing sectoral interests and institutional constraints
  • Apply One Health principles to a practical policy decision
  • Assess the political and financial feasibility of potential interventions
  • Negotiate shared priorities across government sectors
  • Identify actions that can produce measurable near-term progress
