On March 17, GSL Director Steven Hoffman was quoted in a Global News article discussing the likelihood of the Olympic Games 2020 happening in Tokyo as planned this summer, due to COVID-19. As it currently stands, the International Olympic Committee is still hopeful to start the Games on July 24, 2020.
In the article, Hoffman argued that it is unlikely that the event will go ahead as initially planned. He explained, however, that should COVID-19 diminish significantly in the upcoming months, that “it isn’t outside the realm of possibility” that a modified version of the Games could still take place on time or with a slight delay. He clarified in a different quote later in the article, that the aforementioned turn of events would compare to a “miracle”.
