GSL Director Comments on COVID-19 Ontario’s COVID-19 Messaging

On October 6, GSL Director Steven Hoffman was interviewed by the Canadian news agency Canada Press in an article on the COVID-19 messaging of the Ontario Provincial Government.

In the piece, Hoffman lamented that much of the confusion in the province regarding COVID-19 falls at the feet of the Ontario government saying: “The rules are complex and they haven’t been communicated as clearly as needed. And some of them just don’t make sense.”

As an example for the latter he mentioned the province’s gathering limits. In Ontario social gatherings are limited to a maximum of 10 people indoors and 25 outdoors. But the indoor capacity for businesses such as casinos, bars and restaurants is 100 people, as long as they follow all public health guidelines: “If it’s in our homes, then we’re allowed to do one thing but if we all go to a casino then more of us can hang out together,” Hoffman said.
