Congratulations to GSL Director Steven J. Hoffman on his appointment as interim Chief of Staff at Wellcome Trust. In this role, Dr. Hoffman will support day-to-day management at Wellcome Trust and drive integration across teams to advance Wellcome’s mission.
Dr. Hoffman has held various leadership roles outside of academia. Most recently, he held the position of Vice-President of Data & Surveillance at the Public Health Agency of Canada, where Dr. Hoffman spearheaded the modernization of Canada’s public health data architecture, surveillance systems, and risk assessment capabilities in light of lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, and in anticipation of future public health needs. From 2016-2022, Dr. Hoffman held the position of Scientific Director at CIHR’s Institute of Population & Public Health, where he set the Government of Canada’s public health research priorities, developed research funding opportunities, built partnerships, and stewarded $120 million in annual research investments.
Dr. Hoffman will continue his affiliation with the Global Strategy Lab supported by Co-director, Dr. Mathieu Poirier.
