GSL Director Compares Canadian and US Response to COVID-19 in VOX article

On May 4, GSL Director Steven Hoffman was featured in a long-form VOX media article comparing the Canadian and US response to COVID-19 and why Canada has been more successful.

In the article, Hoffman argued that the American public health system has suffered chronic underinvestment for years and that countries who don’t budget for public health crises in calmer times are not well positions if an epidemic or pandemic comes along.

Discussing the Canadian reality of COVID-19, Hoffman claimed that the “biggest public health threat to Canada right now is importing cases from the United States.”
