Title card of the CBC’s Cost of Living podcast

On May 1, GSL Director Steven Hoffman was featured on an episode of CBC’s Cost of Living, to discuss how Canadian provinces should proceed in reopening their local economies.

In the episode, Hoffman explained that it would make the most sense to peel off the most secure “protective layer” first, which would be reopening the health care sector for elective treatments and procedures. For other sectors of the economy, Hoffman argued that there is trade-offs the provinces have to take into account before making decisions. While Quebec wants to reopen schools, Ontario wants to prioritize businesses. Regardless of the decision, the provinces make, they come with their own unique set of challenges.

Listen to the episode here. Steven Hoffman’s segment starts at 6:15 mins.
