GSL Director appears on Overview with Evan Solomon to discuss US decision to halt WHO funding

On April 15, GSL Director Steven Hoffman appeared on the nationally syndicated iHeart Radio show Overview with Evan Solomon to discuss the impact of the Trump administration’s decision to halt World Health Organization (WHO) funding. With 400m US dollars annually, the United States is the WHO’s biggest funder.

In the interview, Hoffman called the decision “irresponsible” especially in the time of a worldwide pandemic. He agreed, that the WHO’s response to COVID-19 was not perfect, but that the global health agency was doing a good job in coordinating the pandemic. He feared that WHO employees would be furloughed or at least live with the anxiety of being furloughed, which would be distracting to the important task at hand to curb the spread of the virus.
