17th International Symposium on Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics (ISVEE)

The 17th International Symposium on Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics (ISVEE) was held from November 11 to 15 in Sydney, Australia. ISVEE has a long history of bringing together the veterinary epidemiology and economics community, serving as a platform for knowledge exchange.

Representing the Global Strategy Lab, Research Lead Kayla Strong led a presentation on an upcoming project on Veterinary Policy Pathways. Dr. Strong also delivered an oral presentation on her PhD research in transmission modelling approaches and showcased a poster on Bayesian modelling which garnered attention for its advanced statistical methodologies and practical applications in veterinary epidemiology.

Kayla contributed to the symposium’s broader conversations by presenting her collaborative work with the Canadian Integrated Program for Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance (CIPARS), where she discussed the surveillance of antimicrobial use in beef cattle.

This event was a great opportunity for experts from diverse backgrounds to come together and exchange ideas on the ongoing discourse on antimicrobial stewardship, policy design, and the future direction of veterinary epidemiology, emphasizing the intersection of science, economics, and policymaking.
