GSL Investigator Quoted in York Region Article about spiking COVID-19 rates in Toronto Suburbs

On January 21, GSL Investigator Susan Rogers Van Katwyk was featured in a York Region article discussing spiking COVID-19 positivity rates in neighbourhoods of Vaughan and Markham, Ontario since Christmas 2020.

In the article Rogers van Katwyk argues that even though rates in York and North York are lower than in the neighbouring suburbs, it would be prudent to step up testing in York Region and it was a good indicator that there is still a real threat of coming into contact with COVID-19.

She further explained that per cent positivity — together with other measures, such as case numbers — help public health authorities understand what is going on in the community and whether stricter rules were needed.
