GSL Director Quoted in CBC News Article about continued US-Canada Border closure

On September 15, GSL Director Steven Hoffman was quoted in a CBC News article discussing the Canadian public’s attitude about the continued border closures with the United States. A recent poll found that 90% of Canadians support that the border remained closed in the short term. Even as COVID-19 cases are slightly trending down in the US.

In the article, Hoffman explained that Canadians are worried that the US pandemic response is guided by politics rather than science and that this is an indication for continued support for closed borders:

“It really starts to raise questions among people as to whether the response is being designed in a way to maximize its effectiveness, or is it just being designed in a way to maximize or to influence the outcome of a forthcoming election.”
