On March 14, GSL Director Steven Hoffman was a guest on 640 Toronto’s morning show to discuss Ontario’s decision to keep schools closed at least 2 weeks after the March break that officially starts today March 16.
On the program, Hoffman said that there are unforeseen consequences of a province-wide shutdown of schools, such as parents who are doctors or nurses having to decide if they needed to go to work or stay home with their children. He cited a policy implemented in New Brunswick that cautioned families not to travel during the March break and if they did, to self-isolate for two weeks upon return. That way, schools could go on and only students who had left the country would have to stay at home.
