GSL Director featured in STAT article about celebrities’ influence on vaccine hesitancy

On December 14, GSL Director Steven Hoffman was featured in a STAT article discussing if celebrities in 2020 could help to normalize the use of COVID-19 vaccines, similar to what Elvis Presley did for the polio vaccine.

In the article, Hoffman argued that partnering with a variety of celebrities, such as former politicians, religious leaders, movie stars, singers, and athletes could be a powerful way of encouraging the use of the COVID-19 vaccine. But he also warned that careful vetting is key:

“Sometimes it can present a risk, if one chooses the wrong celebrity, or a celebrity who might have a tendency to veer off message or who might be open to mixing gobbledygook with science.”
