GSL Director Discusses the Continued Canadian Closed Border Policy in CBC Article

On August 18, GSL Director Steven Hoffman was quoted in a CBC News article discussing why Canada has not moved to open its borders even though COVID-19 case numbers have been stable on a low level for the past few weeks.

In the article, Hoffman mainly focussed on the border with the United States speculating that the border is unlikely to reopen before the US election. Opening the border to other countries, on the other hand, could draw ire from the current US administration: “We’d have one very angry American president that might further target our country with any kind of punitive reaction, which would not be good for Canadians.
