GSL Director appears on Your Morning to discuss penalizing people for breaking quarantine

On March 18, GSL Director Steven Hoffman appeared on CTV’s Your Morning to discuss how other countries around the world have decided to penalize their citizens should they not comply with COVID-19 quarantine and lockdown orders. In Europe, punishments range from rather low fines to multi-year prison sentences. Ontario has presented a slate of punishments rising in severity for individuals, people with authority positions such as CEO’s and companies.

In the interview, Hoffman argued that some of the severity of these proposed punishments show that governments take the threat of COVID-19 seriously. He also discussed the possibility of Canada making self-isolation mandatory and how likely it would be for the government to invoke the Emergencies Act.
