The Global Strategy Lab’s Contributions to STLER AJPH Publication

A new AJPH publication calls for improved reporting standards in legal epidemiological research. Led by Associate Professor Carso Schmit (Texas A&M School of Public Health), the internationally collaborated paper includes Dr. Mathieu Poirier, Director of the Global Strategy Lab (GSL) and a member of the Legal Measurement Methods Consortium.

The paper highlights key challenges in the field, such as legal data collection, coding, and reporting. To address these issues, the authors introduced the Standards for Legal Epidemiology Reporting (STLER). Developed with the EQUATOR Network, STLER will provide a formal reporting checklist to guide researchers and journal editors working in legal epidemiological research.

This publication is also part of GSL’s Global Legal Epidemiology (GLE) research. The GLE Research program aims to assess the effectiveness of international laws and policies. Through the STLER initiative, GSL and the consortium are collaborating to enhance current legal epidemiological research practices.
