As we reach the half-way point in the timeline to accomplish the UN Sustainable Development Goals, it is important to look at new approaches to accelerate progress. With attainment of 12 of the 17 SDGs being slowed or reversed by AMR, closer examination of the impact of AMR is needed.
On September 20, 2023, The AMR Policy Accelerator hosted a webinar examining the wide-spread and negative impact of AMR on attainment of the SDGs, including SDG-3 (Good Health & Wellbeing), SDG-2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG-8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth). It will also explore policy considerations, through a One Health lens, that address escalating AMR rates while limiting its impact on the SDGs.
The webinar was moderated by Dr. Susan Rogers Van Katwyk (Managing Director, AMR Policy Accelerator at Global Strategy Lab). Panelists included Dr. Viviana Muñoz Tellez (Programme Coordinator, Health, Intellectual Property and Biodiversity Programme, South Centre), Dr. Sujith J Chandy (Executive Director, ICARS) and Anand Balachandran (Unit Head, National Action Plans & Monitoring Unit, AMR Division, World Health Organization).
